ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR
A.
POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA
§The following shall qualify for the
Postgraduate Diploma admission:
i.
Graduates
of recognized Universities;
ii.
Holders
of Higher National Diploma (HND) with a minimum of Lower Credit pass or its
equivalent in relevant areas;
iii. Candidates who hold qualifications other than the above, which are acceptable to the Senate of the University.
iv. All candidates shall be subjected to a selection process.
B.
MASTER’S DEGREE
Ø The following shall qualify for the Master’s
Degree Programmes: -
i.
Graduates of recognized Universities who have
obtained the approved Bachelors Degree in relevant field; with at least
Second-Class Honors or its equivalent, or
ii.
Candidates with University degree and
appropriate Postgraduate Diploma of UMYU or any other recognized University
with at least a Credit level pass.
iii.
Candidates who hold qualifications other than
the ones listed above, which are acceptable to the Senate of the University.
Ø The following shall qualify for Professional
Masters’ Degree Admission:
i.
Graduates of recognized Universities who have
obtained the approved Bachelors Degree in relevant field; with at least
Second-Class Honors or its equivalent.
ii.
Candidates with any Bachelor’s degree in Third
Class division who have at least five years relevant working experience.
iii.
Candidates who possess Higher National Diploma
(HND) with at least a Credit pass in Postgraduate Diploma of UMYU or a
recognized Institution in a relevant area.
iv.
Candidates who hold qualifications other than
the ones listed above, which are acceptable to the Senate of the University.
C.
DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PhD)
The following shall qualify
for the Doctor of Philosophy admission:
i.
Graduates of recognized Universities who have
obtained a good Masters Degree appropriate to the proposed areas of study;
ii.
Graduates of recognized Universities who have
obtained Master of Philosophy degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 on five (5)
point scale in relevant field of study to proceed for Ph.D in the appropriate field
to the proposed area of study;
iii.
In addition to (i) – (ii)above, a candidate must
possess at least a Bachelors degree in relevant field with Second Class lower
division;
iv.
Candidates who hold qualifications other than
the above, which are acceptable to the Senate of the University;
v.
Candidate must state the proposed area of
research and submit a synopsis of not less than 500 words of the proposed topic
of research.
Matriculation Requirement:
In
addition to A, B and C above, a candidate must satisfy the University’s
matriculation requirements of the programme i.e. five relevant Credit Passes at
the O’level to include English and Mathematics.
Selection Process:
All
candidates shall be subjected to a selection process. There may be screening/entrance examination
on a date which would be announced on the University Website (www.umyu.edu.ng). Candidates are therefore advised to check.
Method of Application
Interested candidates for any of the Postgraduate Programmes can apply online via the University website (www.umyu.edu.ng) from 1st September to 30th November, 2025.
The admission requirements and procedures of payment of application fees (N10,500) are available at www.umyu.edu.ng.
All candidates are required to request their previous Institutions
to forward either soft copy or hard copy of their academic transcripts to the
Secretary, College of Postgraduate Studies, Umaru Musa Yar’adua University,
Katsina.
Soft copy of academic transcripts should be sent via email to sec.pgs@umyu.edu.ng. All academic
transcripts should reach the Secretary, College of Postgraduate Studies not
later than the closing date of the application.
