Welcome Address by the Vice Chancellor for the 2017/2018 Academic Season

It is a great pleasure for me to welcome back returning students and to equally welcome the new students for the 2017/2018 session.

For the returning students we hope you have come back fresh and more determined to succeed in completing your studies with excellent performance. While for the new students we hope you are coming with the resolve and determination to work hard, interact well with the Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU) community and be good ambassadors of your family and community.

We, the management and staff of UMYU, in our turn, share a responsibility to work hard, create the conducive environment to enable you succeed. We are saddled with the responsibility to sustain and plan UMYU as it is today and as we imagine what it will be in the future.

We always have our motto “to learn and to serve” in our mind and it underlies the fundamental values that define the objectives to serve our Community. This carries heavy obligations and requires excellence in impacting knowledge to you through teaching as well as research.

We are deeply committed to education at this University, with academic studies at the core of other activities which all together will add up to your remarkable stay and experience at UMYU.

In this season, we want to enlarge the e-learning package introduced last year for the Law students to encompass multiple programmes and more students. We are committed to cover all programmes in the shortest possible time.

There was an improvement in the examination pass rate of students during the last season and we believe it must be partly from the measures taken last season in the all encompassing assessment regime of students whose focus is not on generating grades but on creating deep learning situation.

The exemplary good conduct of our students in UMYU is always a source of joy to the management and we want it to be sustained and we hope the tolerance and respect for each and every member of our Community will continue.

For the students staying on the campus, a lot of repairs and changes were made in the hostels to make your stay more comfortable and in this respect we call on all to assist in maintaining the facilities provided and the environment for the benefit of all of us.

We are looking forward to the cooperation of everyone towards a successful completion of the season.

You are most welcome back
