Staff Training and Development

At inception the State Government established a N2.5 billion Staff Training and Development Fund with commitment of N250 Million per annum from 2007 to 20017. In addition the TETFund has come in tremendously to augment the state government efforts.

With the two sources of funding for staff training and development namely the Staff Training Development (STD) and Tertiary Education Fund (TETFund), there is an impressive record of sponsorships for study fellowships, workshops, seminars and conference attendance resulting in large improvement of quality of staff. From 2007 to 2017 a total of 210 and 130 were sponsored for Masters and PhD degrees respectively, 174 have completed Master degrees and 51 have completed PhDs. The University has now lined up 119 staff in training (20 Masters and 98 PhDs) for sponsorships over the next two years with a different strategy that may include joint awards with partner Universities. The is a well developed Staff Training and Development Policy in place which provides for the University training objectives and direction and the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders.
